Since you are asking how to make a free blog okay let me give you a simple and easy step to star a blog. When i start blogging i really don't know what to do, i just make it and make it and make it until i succeed by help of the other blogger around the net and my self. Did you know blogspot?

You can easily write blog posts and add pictures/images to your blog
You are able to categorise your blog posts and create a custom menu
People can comment and share your blog etc…
3) CHOOSING A DOMAIN & HOSTING, AND SETTING UP A BLOGSPOT BLOG ON YOUR OWN DOMAIN
This is not what im talking about. we are talking about free blog. But ok let me tell you this, some of the readers can't remember your blog address because its to long. my blog url is www.askingpatrick.blogspot.com -- look its to long right, so many blogger is choosing to by their own domain. buying your own domain is very helpful if i buy my own domain my url will become www.askingpatrick.com --see its too short right, who cant remember that.
if you want to buy your own domain i suggest you to buy in your local domain provider. buying in international domain provider is more difficult. but if you choose to buy international domain provider i suggest you to buy in godaddy.com i try it already, its so easy and they can help me as soon as they can.
